CONSULTING MENTORS PROGRAM

Gemini Ink is trying a different approach to our mentoring program. Writers of fiction and poetry may have their works-in-progress evaluated by professional writers with whom Gemini Ink has worked in the past. The program is limited to six participants in each genre.

Students will have the opportunity to receive professional feedback that is specific to the writing submitted. An affordable price makes this opportunity especially enticing. These descriptions are also listed in our spring catalogue. Sign up by calling 734-9673 or by registering online beginning Jan. 3, 2007.

Limit: 6 students
Registration Deadline: Accepting manuscripts from Jan. 3 - March 15, 2007

WORKS IN PROGRESS: Poetry
Level: All
Instructor: Marian Haddad
The first six people to send in their manuscripts – up to 25 pages – will receive suggestions and advice from poet, Marian Haddad, whose consulting clients have won awards such as The Ashland Poetry Prize. A literary rather than a publishing consultation, this professional feedback will focus on sculpting each poem, making it as tight as possible without losing the intent or integrity. Haddad concentrates on line lengths and how the length of a line paces the poem, on stanzaic formation (depending on the breath and white space the poem may call for), line breaks and enjambment, musical cadence and sound, specificity in naming things, and poet’s voice.
Date: To be arranged on an individual basis for meetings over phone, via snail mail, or e-mail.
Limit: 6 students
Registration Deadline: From Jan. 15 - March 30, 2007
CPE Credits: 2 Language Arts (all levels)
Fee: $100/member; $110/non-member
