2006 YEAR IN REVIEW
Since
2003, we have presented our annual report in the fall catalogue
to bring you audited figures and information yielding an
accurate picture of our previous year. Gemini Ink's fiscal year
is calendrical, January through December, and our previous
year's audit generally is completed each May.
In
March 2004, we revised our mission statement, reinforcing our
commitment to serve an ever broader range of writers and
readers.
Our mission:
Gemini Ink nurtures writers and
readers and builds community through literature and the related
arts.
FY/CY 2006 HIGHLIGHTS:
-
Total service numbers for Gemini Ink
increased 8% - from 5,043 in 2005 to 5,465 in 2006.
Participants for Writers in Communities increased by 9%,
while Dramatic Readers Theater audiences doubled from 2005.
-
In August 2005 the Shield Ayres Foundation
issued our first challenge grant, which we met – thanks to
you – in June 2006, two months ahead of the deadline.
-
Our Spring/Fall Autograph Series featured
Edward P. Jones and Margaret
Atwood. More than 1,200 students and audience members
attended the free public readings, master classes, and
luncheon/colloquia.
-
We held our most successful INKstravaganza
ever and ended the fiscal year with a surplus of $60,798.
-
Our auditors, Sagebiel, Ravenburg & Shuh,
again gave us an “unqualified opinion,” the highest mark
possible.
We are deeply grateful to all of you – members
and donors, writers and artists, businesses, volunteers,
institutions and individuals – whose generosity allows us to
continue building community through reading, writing, and human
exchange.
